WHAT REALLY HAPPENED

August 18, 2007 8.30am: morning of our wedding - get notification from hotel management: "MANDATORY GOVERNMENTAL EVACUATION off Isla Holbox due to approaching 'hurricane Dean'. 9.30am: We inform all of our family and friends to start packing. The Rufli family, with help of the hotel staff, search for a hotel far inland Mexico which can accommodate 35 guests/17 rooms. Arrangements for private boats off the island are made... 11.00am: photo session at the beach to capture some of the islands beauty with the wedding group. 12.00pm: family, friends, hotel guests and hotel staff are invited by the hotel to eat buffet style lunch before evacuating - yes...they served up some of our wedding food and our cake!!! 2.00pm: We gather at the beach with all our luggage, wedding dress, dogs etc. Everyone has to wade through the water to the boats which will take us back to the main land. 3.00pm: private transportation takes us inland to Valladolid. Arrival time at Valladolid: 6.15pm. We stay at the only hotel that could accommodate us: Hotel Maria De La Luz. Pretty hotel? No way - but we did not have an option =) ...this crappy little hotel...really added on to the adventure..!!!
